7/ Iron Curtain Cycle Trail

First you’ll learn a bit of the history of old Pressburg – the former name of Bratislava, in the historic centre. You´ll see a modern city centre Eurovea, a fairy tale Blue Church and the top sights of the Bratislava promenade at the Opera House. Then we cycle along the embankment, cross the Danube and get close to the Austrian border and cycle the former path of border guards. We visit one of the bunkers along the Iron Curtain and pay silent tribute to soldiers of WW1 and finish with a ride past a new housing estate.

Note: For groups we offer a real experience of the Iron Curtain with border guards and dogs.

Bike tour through the Iron Curtain, featuring WW2 and Cold War remnants. First you’ll learn about the history of old Pressburg- the former name of Bratislava, in the historic centre. From there we’ll cycle along the Danube and get to know the history of the unique Jewish cemetery. Just past the Lafranconi Bridge and close to the Austrian border you will see the first bunker. We will then stop at memorials commemorating the tragedies of WW 2 and the Cold War in the Austrian village of Berg. Leaving the past behind us, we will cycle through idyllic countryside towards a sweet surprise. Back on the Slovak side,we will have a look at the secrets hidden in a bunker “Cemetery,” pay silent tribute to soldiers of WW1 and finish with a ride past a new housing estate on the EuroVelo 13 Iron Curtain Trail.
