History and Traditions of the Záhorie Region (Behind the Mountains)

This tour will show you a typical landscape of pine woods, the hills of the White Carpathians, historic sights and surviving folk traditions. We will stop at Holič which lived its Golden Age during the reign of Maria Theresa and Holič Palace became the favoured place especially for Maria Theresa´s husband. W will also take a look at the unique Slovak Stonehenge megalithic stones next to the palace. Afterward we continue to the town of Skalica known for its small vineyards situated on the surrounding hillsides and the architecture of the houses where the wine is made and stored. You will walk the historic centre and stop in the medieval restaurant Ledovna (former storage for the icecube) to sample the famous Skalica Ruby Wine and a local “empty” pie Skalica trdelnik.
During the season from May to October possibility to visit Holič Palace or to take a tour on Bata Water Canal, named after the famous shoemaker nicknamed as a Czech Henry Ford.
